Product/Technology: Eaton 9395 UPS with Energy Saver System
Hardware, Software or Service: Hardware
Launched: October 2009 (Upgrade)
What it does? Eaton's 9395 uninterruptible power system (UPS) with Energy Saver System operates at 99 percent efficiency at all load levels”without sacrificing reliability. This technology drives UPS energy losses down to nearly zero; radically reducing energy consumption environmental impact and power costs. The 9395's double-conversion design supplies mission-critical facilities the highest levels of power availability.
Innovative products such as the Eaton 9395 UPS improve functional characteristics as well as technical abilities.
What makes it Innovative? For many Information Technology (IT) organizations energy costs represent the largest single component of total cost of ownership”and the most stifling influence on IT expansion. Traditional double-conversion UPSs can waste up to 10 percent of the electricity that passes through them and until now it has been a necessary waste to ensure the complete protection of the load. The Eaton 9395 UPS provides backup power and scalable battery runtimes in a small footprint for large data centers health care applications and other critical systems. With Eaton's Energy Saver System the 9395 achieves 99 percent efficiency at all load levels using advanced processing and detection algorithms that allow the UPS to actively adapt to incoming utility power conditions. Energy Saver System differs from traditional bypass economy modes in that the inverter is still connected to the load to provide surge suppression. Then when an anomaly is detected the inverter takes over powering the load in less than two milliseconds which is faster than a typical static transfer switch. The increased efficiency of Energy Saver System reduces direct and indirect energy costs as the wasted energy in a UPS is mostly given off as heat. With Energy Saver System data center and facility managers no longer have to balance the compromise of efficiency versus protection.
